/pub/pgp / keys

Historical software. These are 1990s versions of PGP (2.x and 5.0) and tools for them, kept unchanged for history and research. They use old algorithms (RSA keys of 1024 bits or less, IDEA, MD5) and must not be used to protect anything today. For real use, install GnuPG.

The public keyring, indexes and help file from keys.pgp.net.

For sites wanting a local copy of the key ring info, as well as the data
itself, there is a file with the suffix ".sum" which contains the (BSD)
checksum of the file. This means that sites can poll for changes of the
file simply by fetching the sum file and seeing if that has changed. This
file is very small (12 bytes) in comparison with the main keyring
(several megabytes). Sites can also check that the datafile has been
transferred intact by checking the sum.
The files concerned are

pubring.pgp, which is the keyring itself,
and pubring.sum its checksum.
verbose-index.gz,
which is a verbose listing of the keys (compressed with gzip)
displaying all the signatures, etc, and
verbose-index.gz.sum its checksum.
index.gz,
which is a simple listing of the keys (compressed with gzip) without the
signatures,etc, and index.gz.sum
its checksum.
